FRIP depends on faculty participation. Faculty needs have guided its development, and faculty comments and suggestions have been a vital source of feedback throughout FRIP's history. Because faculty are busy, FRIP was designed to minimize demands on their time. Using FRIP's simple Web-based interface, faculty can select terms to describe their current interests in ten minutes or less.
Each faculty member has a personalized Web site for use in selecting research interest terms. Access to the Web site depends on a unique user identification number and randomly-generated password. Unless a faculty member shares the ID and password, no one else can alter the information included in his or her FRIP record. ID and password information is not given out to school, department, or division administrators, though it can be shared with the faculty member's support staff on request.
Personal information available through FRIP's public search interface is limited to name, department, and e-mail address as provided by the schools of the health sciences. This information is comparable to data already available to the public over the Web from other institutional sources.
